Bridge Lifts for Tall Ship Festival

Aerial Lift Bridge and Minnesota Slip Bridge To Run Amended Schedules for Tall Ships Festival this Week

[Duluth, MN] – The Minnesota Slip Bridge (or the Blue Bridge in Canal Park) and the Aerial Lift Bridge will be implementing a modified lift schedule during the Tall Ships Festival. These hours will be in effect from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm Thursday Aug 18th through Sunday Aug 21st. The Slip Bridge will be opening twice an hour; at 15 minutes after the hour and again at the 45 minute mark (example, 10:15 and 10:45). The only exception will be made for commercial charter fishing vessels returning from chartered fishing trips. The normal Bridge lifting schedule will resume on Monday Aug 22nd.

On Thursday, August 18, the Parade of Sail will travel under the Aerial Lift Bridge for the Tall Ships Festival. The parade is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm and last approximately 1.5 hours. During the Parade of Sail the public should expect longer than normal lift times. Three separate groups of Tall Ships are expected to sail under the Bridge. The plan is to have the Bridge raise and allow three Tall Ships to enter the harbor for each interval, and then the Bridge will lower and allow traffic to cross.

The Lift Bridge will return to the normal summer lifting schedule (on the hour and half hour mark) following the Parade of Sail. There will be extra Bridge personnel working during the Tall Ships Festival to help safely move vehicles and pedestrians across the Bridge due to the expected high volume of traffic and visitors around the Aerial Lift Bridge.

The City’s priority is to manage and ensure safe transit for everyone to enjoy the festival. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor Dave Campbell (218) 723-3387.
